British Values

At Heelands School, British Values are at the heart of everything we do and are closely linked to our own school values of being Responsible, Restorative, Resilient, and Respectful. We nurture children to understand the importance of Democracy, The Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect and Tolerance of others, helping them grow into kind, confident, and considerate members of the community.

Through being responsible, children learn to make positive choices and take ownership of their actions. Our restorative approach encourages them to resolve conflicts and build stronger relationships. By being resilient, they develop confidence to persevere and learn from challenges, and by being respectful, they understand and appreciate differences in others. Together, these values create a caring and inclusive environment where every child can thrive.

We use the Jigsaw scheme of work to teach PSHE and RE from Early Years through to Year 2. Using this spiral curriculum enables our pupils to gain a deeper understanding of British Values and supports Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development.

This month our British Value is Respect which ties in with our Manner of the Month. The children are thinking about respecting the views of their friends and accepting that we all have different thoughts and feelings. Respect for our environment and resources is also key and the children are showing a good understanding of how to care for things.
